Greetings and welcome to another segment of Story Time!
Today’s post dives into an order that hit all the pot holes on the way but had a surprisingly sweet ending!
On one extremely hot summer day, as is typical in my city on days like this one, I received an order at an ice cream joint. The ice cream parlor in question is extremely popular and so wait times can be rough. I went in knowing this, prepared myself mentally for a wait, and did my best to flag down an employee as soon as possible to inquire about my customer’s order.
Then one of my least favorite things happened.
They told me the order had already been picked up by another dasher.
Ugh… *sigh*.
Ok. Oh well. I know from past experiences on the phone with Doordash Support that they’ll want me to ask the restaurant if they can remake the order so I steal myself away and ask the girl if they can do that. She surprises the heck out of me by saying yes! OK, cool, don’t have to call support. Not much of an on the phone person.
Of course, then I get a call from the customer. She wants to know why her app tells her I’ve arrived but she can’t find her food. So I try my best to explain that there was a mistake with the previous driver and her order is being remade, it may be about 10-15 minutes. She tells me she is going to contact DoorDash Customer Support. OK.
The remake is taking forever. 🙄
10 minutes later I get another phone call, this time from DoorDash. The agent asks me what’s going on with this order. So I explain again to the agent what’s up and they basically say cool, just checking and hang up.
The remake is finally ready, and I head to the customer. By now its been about 30 minutes.
When I arrive it’s supposed to be a leave it at the door type but the girl is waiting outside for me. Hoping she’s not pissed, I ready myself for an awkward interaction.
She smiles as I approach and starts thanking me, sweet! She proceeds to tell me about how this is the 4th time a delivery driver has stolen her food and she appreciated me so much for getting it remade and waiting extra for the order and handling things with customer service that she wants to give me something.
I’m thinking it going to be a tip obviously, but she hands me this super adorable hand-made stuffed elephant! She gushed at me for like 10 minutes, explaining how she used to drive for DoorDash so she gets it and she just can’t get over how professional and patient I was with her order. Even though I’m a super practical person, and I would always prefer money, this was one of the nicest things a customer has ever done and I left feeling like I’d done the right thing on this one and yes, I still have the little thing in my car. 🥰
Even when everything goes wrong, you can still have a good attitude, do the right thing, and leave a lasting positive impression on those around you!
That’s all for now folks, stay tuned for more tales from the dasher crypt!
