Story Time! How Many Oranges??

Hello and wlcome to another episode of Story Time!

In this post, I’d like to highlight some of the silliest and craziest things ordered by customers for delivery, since it’s what I get asked the most about and it’s fun to laugh about now. So, without further ado; let the hilarity ensue!

  1. Embarrassing Orders: Walgreens comes up quite a lot in my town and typically it’s for things like snacks, drinks, medicines, and household items. Pretty innocent. But what most people probably dont realize is that Walgreens also sells items that may be a bit, well, embarrassing. Let’s just say I’ve picked up my fair share of intimate items! I mean I’ve picked up everything from plungers to plan b pills and condoms and even vibrators! 🤣 All in all though, I have no problem personally taking these orders, as long as I’m paid fairly and I dont have to look the customer in the eye, I’ll shoulder the embarrassment and pass no judgment when I drop it off to the customer 😉
  2. Odd Items: You might think that after 30,000 deliveries I would not be surprised by anything anymore but when I took an order one day from Lowe’s and then saw what I was supposed to pick up, I was more than a little shocked. The customer had ordered not 1 but 2 extra large porcelain thrones. That’s right. Toilets. Like what? Each weighing about a hundred pounds, I quickly unassigned myself from that one, thank you very much. Nope. Not with my back problems! I’ve also had customers order other odd things like kiddie pools, dog halloween costumes, bales of hay, lumber, and a printer 🖨 LOL. You literally never know what might come up!
  3. Strange Orders: Most of our Deliveries come from Restaurants and Grocery Stores and I’ve received orders as small as just some ranch sauce (like the ranch at Wingstop is crazy good so I kinda get that one lol), and I’ve gotten orders as large as 150 items at Petsmart! 😬  (j/k it was just 150 live crickets 🦗). But one of the weirdest and largest grocery store orders I’ve ever gotten consisted of some pretty strange stuff. I walked in, started looking at the list and had to do a double take. On this delivery, the customer asked me to get 10 packages of antacids, a 30 count pack of toilet paper, 4 tubes if toothpaste, 10 cases of bottled water, and 169 individual oranges…??? I should’ve known something was fishy then but it wasn’t until later, after I’d gotten the produce guy to help me with the oranges (they gave me 2 crates!), after I’d delivered it to their 3rd story brand new apartment complex unit (3 trips!), after I’d taken a new order, I get a phone call from DoorDash. It’s customer service wanting to know what happened on the delivery since the customer claimed they never got their order. So I had to give a full account of the delivery and submit a dispute over it. That is the order that made me say if an order is too weird or big at a grocery store, then it’s probably not worth it!

Through it all, I have learned to roll with the punches and expect the unexpected! There are no two days alike in this business which can be fun and can keep you on your toes!
