Get ready to learn about real life crazy delivery orders! What really goes down, what goes through the mind of your dasher, and what can be learned from even the worst experiences!Â
So to set the scene: I’m still fairly new to DoorDash, not to mention new to the city I’m delivering in, and I get this order that, at first, seems pretty decent. It’s worth about 8 bucks for like 3 and a half miles. Just says 1 item. No sweat.
I head to the place, it’s a specialty drinks place. Don’t know if y’all know what that is, in my area they’re everywhere, its like a dirty soda extravaganza up in this…
So anyways, I arrive and go in, tell the employee that I’m there to pick up for *insert business name here*. The employee gets this weird half scared, half amused, look on her face and says they’re working on the order and it’ll be a few minutes. Kinda strange, but I think to myself, it’s just one drink, it’s cool.
10 minutes later, the cup holders start piling up on the counter. Like a LOT. Each cup holder has five 44 Oz cups in them. 4 in each slot and a 5th one balanced between them.
There are now 6 cup holders like this on the counter.
The girl gets my attention.
Says the order is ready.
I say, sorry, there must be some mistake, my order is just one item? So we both look at my phone and to my horror, I realize it says 1 item because… it’s… a… catering order… O.M.G.Â
So I now have 30 drinks to deliver. I’m so new I don’t know yet about unassigning orders. So I freaking deliver it. I think I went like 15 miles an hour the whole way there, drinks wedged like every-freaking-where in my car.Â
By the grace of the angels I managed to not spill a single drink but let me tell you; I was LIVID. I know the lady at the front desk of the business could tell I was mad. I’m normally pretty easy going but this one had me going. Every trip i made to and from my car i got more and more angry. Less than 10 bucks for a whole office catering drink order? Talk about a nightmare!!Â
I didn’t completely lose my cool but needless to say, I never went back to that office and I turned down so many drink orders after that.
Looking back, I think this is probably one of the worst orders I’ve ever had but it certainly taught me a LOT! I learned to pay closer attention to detail AND I learned how to unassign myself from bad orders!!! (Legit, I googled that). Furthermore, I promised myself after this one that I would never again accept an order that made me so mad LOL.Â
So there you have it folks! Thanks for reading and stay tuned for more insane tales from the crypt!! 🤪Â
